Yes! Discover why PresbyMAX® is a good choice for those over 45’s experiencing near vision loss.2Tommy C.Y. Chan, FRCS et al. Presbyopic Correction Using Monocular Bi-aspheric Ablation Profile (PresbyMAX) in Hyperopic Eyes: 1-Year Outcomes

Say farewell to reading glasses

PresbyMAX is a great solution for those struggling with declining near vision due to age3Dan Fu et al. One Year Outcome and Satisfaction of Presbyopia Correction Using the PresbyMAX® Monocular Ablation Profile

PresbyMAX® is a minimally invasive method of presbyopia treatment performed using technologically advanced SCHWIND AMARIS eye laser systems.

  • PresbyMAX is especially well suited for people with very busy and active lifestyles who often find having to use reading glasses inconvenient.
  • PresbyMAX is effective for treating patients with presbyopia and other refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia or/and astigmatism.
  • To find out if laser vision correction is right for you, we must take your vision requirements and expectations into consideration. That is why we will ask you questions about your hobbies, your daily activities and other aspects that might affect the decision.
  • Because we customise the PresbyMAX treatment to each patient, you will also have to undergo a detailed eye examination. The nature and degree of your refractive error(s), curvature and thickness of the cornea, as well as many other factors, play a role.
  • We will also test your tolerance level for monovision and ocular dominance. This way, we can simulate the vision we are hoping to achieve with laser vision correction. To allow us to see this, we will require dilating the pupils for the examination. If possible please bring a driver with you for your initial assessment

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

How is PresbyMAX® different from other procedures?

Presbyopia treatments with the excimer laser often aim to divide the work between the two eyes:

  • One eye is sharpened for distant viewing, the other for near vision (monovision).
  • Unlike conventional LASIK treatment, multiple precisely calculated focal points are created in the eye – similar to the principle applied in multifocal contact or intraocular lenses.
  • The cornea is modelled at the centre for near vision and towards the periphery for distant vision. This results in a good depth of field and high-quality vision at ALL distances.
  • Visual acuity typically improves rapidly, especially at near distance.
  • Adaptation to the new visual impression can take slightly longer than conventional LASIK treatment.
  • High patient satisfaction is achieved, even in cases of advanced presbyopia.4Dan Fu et al. One Year Outcome and Satisfaction of Presbyopia Correction Using the PresbyMAX® Monocular Ablation Profile
  • The treatment is completed in a few minutes, and the actual laser ablation takes seconds. The procedure neither touches nor replaces the sensitive lens of the eye. Rather, rapid laser pulses gently model the cornea with high precision.
Advantages

PresbyMAX® is safe as a result of treatment with technologically advanced SCHWIND AMARIS eye laser systems.5Tommy C. Y. Chan et al. Presbyopic Correction Using Monocular Bi-aspheric Ablation Profile (PresbyMAX) in Hyperopic Eyes: 1-Year Outcomes

  • Very short, minimally invasive treatment time of just a few minutes.
  • Rapid restoration of near vision.
  • High-quality vision at all visual distances.
  • Possible simultaneous correction of visual defects such as shortsightedness, longsightedness or astigmatism.
  • High patient satisfaction.
  • Impressive clinical results.
Disadvantages
  • Difficulty adapting to new vision (it can take up to 3 months) – the treatment can be reversed with further laser treatment
  • Slightly reduced contrast sensitivity for night driving. Generally just a matter to time for adaptation to occur

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Laser blended vision surgery risks include:

  • Dry eye
  • Flap complications
  • Sometimes the brain is unable to adapt to the new vision requiring re-treatment

The alternative to laser blended vision is:

Allotex inlay – tissue addition technology that uses precisely-shaped human corneal allografts to create what is essentially a permanent, living contact lens or lens6https://us.allotex.com/science/clinical-data/.

Phakic EVO VIVATM ICL implant – Extended depth of focus (EDOF) lens implant placed in front of the natural lens of the eye to correct presbyopia or loss of reading. It is typically used for patients not suitable for laser vision correction. This small lens is made from Collamer, a soft material that contains biocompatible collagen and works in harmony with the natural eye. EVO Viva is added to the eye to provide sharper, clear near vision while the eye’s natural lens remains in place.1

Refractive lens exchange or lens replacementlens exchange is where we remove the natural lens and replace it with a multifocal lens implant to give good distance, intermediate and close-up vision. It is is like wearing a contact lens permanently except the contact lens is in the eye rather than on the surface of the eye.

Step 1: Creating the flap
We create a flap with a highly precise ZEISS VISUMAX 800 femtosecond laser.
Step 2: Changing the laser
We reposition you to the SCHWIND AMARIS 1050 excimer laser.
Step 3: Folding back the flap
We gently fold back the flap, exposing the inner corneal tissue that we need to treat.
Step 4: Correcting the error
The SCHWIND AMARIS Excimer laser reshapes the corneal tissue correcting the refractive error.
Step 5: Repositioning the flap
The flap is returned to its original position, protecting the eye like a natural bandage.
