As a general rule of thumb, LASIK (laser assisted in situ keratomileusis) can correct prescriptions of:

For patients who fall outside of these ranges, other refractive surgery options may still be available such as PRK, SMILE® Pro, or ICL procedures.

  • As a first step, take our online suitability test. This will give us an initial understanding of your prescription and lifestyle to assess if you are a suitable candidate.
  • If the self-test is positive, we encourage you to book a free assessment.
  • At the assessment, we’ll take the time to further discover your needs and goals, perform a thorough assessment of your eyes, and talk through the treatment options to ensure that we customise a treatment to suit you.
  • In some instances, the latest option may not always be the best for you. Dr Gupta will ensure that you are well-informed before making a decision.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

  • Laser vision correction is a procedure that eliminates or reduces the need for glasses or contact lenses to see objects clearly.
  • Laser eye surgery or laser corneal sculpting is a surgical procedure that uses a laser to reshape the surface of the eye. By allowing light entering the eye to focus properly onto the retina so that you can see clearly without glasses and contact lenses.
  • At IVISION LASER we use the latest generation Zeiss VisuMax® 500 femtosecond laser and the SCHWIND AMARIS® 1050RS excimer laser which are one of the world’s highest performance lasers offering high speed, precision and fast visual recovery.20https://www.eye-tech-solutions.com/schwind-amaris1050
Advantages of LASIK are:
Disadvantages
  • A flap is created which has potential complications such as flap dislodgement, infection and epithelial ingrowth.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Laser eye surgery is proven to be a safe procedure23Modern laser in situ keratomileusis outcomes. JCRS, 2016. Sandoval, Solomon, Tremblay, Donnenfeld, Lindstrom, Potvin, Kohnen, which is why complications after laser eye surgery are rare.

Other rare risks include:

  • Infection
  • Corneal ectasia
  • Loss of best-corrected vision

Are there any side effects after laser eye treatment?

Immediately after the laser eye surgery, you may:

  • Feel a gritty or sandy sensation in your eye, such as dry eyes. We can administer eye drops for this.
  • Be slightly sensitive to light
  • Experience watering eyes for a few hours
  • Vision recovers very quickly for most people, especially patients who have had a SMILE® Pro or LASIK treatment.
SMILE Pro

SMILE Pro is a gentle and proven – flap-free – eye laser surgery performed by ophthalmic surgeons to safely and effectively treat:24Marcus Blum et al. Five-year results of Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx SMILE).

  • Short-sightedness
  • Astigmatism
SmartSurfACE

SmartSurfACE is a touch-free laser method and is an advanced form of PRK, LASIK’s predecessor. It’s a great alternative still used today for patients that do not qualify for LASIK or SMILE Pro surgery. SmartSurfACE TransPRK can effectively treat:

ICL

ICLs are implantable contact lenses. This eye treatment is (unlike laser eye surgery) reversible. We use it to treat:

  • The VisuMax® 500 femtosecond laser is used to create a precise flap, taking a few seconds. The hinged flap is lifted and folded back. The underlying tissue is sculpted with the SCHWIND AMARIS® excimer laser.
  • If you have short-sightedness, the laser reshapes the cornea to be flatter. If you are long-sighted, the laser reshapes the cornea to be steeper.
  • To ensure accuracy during the procedure (even while your eye moves), the SCHWIND laser system offers 7 dimensional eye tracking to allow for a centred and precise treatment.
  • LASIK treats a wider range of refractive errors and continues to remain the procedure of choice for many patients.
